Glen Haven Volunteer Fire Department Pile Burning

Total Project Area: TBD

The Glen Haven Volunteer Fire Department (GHVFD) will burn slash piles on the outskirts of the community during winter months as weather conditions allow. Working on Glen Haven Association land on the western side of the community, the GHVFD created a large fuel break to slow the spread of a potential future wildfire moving into the community and to compliment nearby U.S. Forest Service forest management treatments. The GHVFD is now working to burn slash piles generated from the fuel break treatment in order to remove excess fuel from the landscape.

Burning will occur when conditions specified by Larimer County are met and personnel are available. This includes adequate snow cover and favorable smoke dispersal conditions. Smoke will be visible during daylight hours, but all fires will be extinguished by nightfall.

The Glen Haven community is located west of Drake, CO off Highway 43. Piles are located just north of Fox Creek Rd.

Prescribed fire smoke may affect your health. For more information, see https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/cdphe/wood-smoke-and-health.
