Slash Pile Burning Planned Near Husted Ranch and Estes Park
Estes Park, CO – The Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) will be conducting prescribed fire operations northeast of the Estes Park community. Burning may be conducted throughout the winter months beginning in April 2024. Burn operations are expected to last several days as weather and conditions allow.
Smoke will be visible from the town of Estes Park. Please do not call 911 to report smoke northeast of Estes Park during these dates. The objective is to reduce hazardous fuels in and around the wildland-urban interface. This project is part of the fuels reduction project by Larimer Conservation District (LCD) on private lands.

The prescribed burn is the final phase of treatment on 200 acres managed by LCD on private lands. Burning will only be conducted under specific guidelines and plans established by DFPC. This includes having acceptable weather and fuel conditions to meet the objectives for safe and effective burning and adequate smoke dispersal. Piles will be allowed to smolder overnight and fire personnel will monitor the project area in the days following the burn.
