Work Begins on Pierson Park Project; Temporary Road Closure in Place
The Canyon Lakes Ranger District of the Roosevelt National Forest wants to inform residents that manual tree cutting within the Pierson Park Project area has begun along the Pierson Park (NFSR 119) and Johnny Park (NFSR 118) roads.
Road reconstruction is also anticipated to begin soon. For safety reasons, Pierson Park Road will remain closed to motorized traffic. Find the closure order and map on our website.
Mechanical tree cutting is expected to take place later this summer/fall. During that time you can anticipate a larger road corridor closure within the project area due to heavy equipment operating. Additional information will be sent when that occurs.
The decision for this project was signed in July 2023 and its purpose is to establish and maintain linear fuel breaks intended to reduce the risk of uncharacteristic wildfire and protect at-risk communities. The work taking place aims to address overgrown and hazardous forest conditions along key National Forest ingress and egress roads. Learn more about this project online.
