Community Members Come Together to Reduce Wildfire Risk in the St. Vrain Watershed

Working with The Watershed Center, Allenspark Fire Protection District, and Boulder County Wildfire Partners, 21 volunteers came together on Saturday, July 11, to help make Allenspark more prepared for wildfire. Volunteers helped residents remove vegetation and other flammable materials from around their homes. This work can help reduce the chance of flames reaching a home and create safer conditions for residents and firefighters.

Together, and in just 3 hours, volunteers and community members:

  • Helped 10 households with wildfire mitigation work

  • Filled more than 38 yard-waste bags with flammable vegetation cleared from within 30 feet of homes

  • Removed more than 6 pickup-truck loads of flammable material from around homes

  • Filled three 30-yard dumpsters with flammable household and yard materials

  • Filled one 30-yard organics dumpster with vegetation and other yard waste

The event showed how much a community can accomplish when neighbors, volunteers, and local partners work together.
